General
and Specialized Professional Development: |
|
This
service can assist district efforts to improve literacy
achievement through high-quality, research-based
professional development, school-based consulting
services, and serve as a vehicle for sharing local
expertise. Services include:

Offerings
are developed based on request to meet specific
district needs for embedded staff development in any
of the disciplines. Presenters and trainers are
identified to implement these services.

Specific
trainings are developed when at least 2 districts
request a presenter or organization.

Annual
trainings that continue to meet district needs are
planned and offered, such as Schools Attuned, and the
Reading and Writing Institutes.

Successive
sharing of presenters is planned with districts after
a shared district activity.
Individual districts may have the same
presenter work with their district for up to one year
after the shared activity.

TURNKEY
TRAINING |
|
This service
provides districts with up-to-date information from the
State Education Department regarding regulations, policies
and assessments. Turnkey workshops are free to three staff
members per district and are held throughout the year.
Reimbursement is available for substitute teacher costs. |

WILSON READING SYSTEM |
|
The Wilson Reading
System Training is a direct, multi-sensory structured-language
teaching program designed for students who have difficulty with
written language in the areas of decoding and spelling. The Wilson
Reading System teaches students the structure of words and language
through a sequenced, 12-step program. This program can be used with
elementary, middle and high school students. It is based on the Orton
Gillingham philosophy and principles, as well as phonological coding
research. An overview workshop and three levels of sequential training
are offered to participants. |
